Level 2: Generalization

Building on the Foundations

Therapy sessions continue to build on the foundational skills taught in Level 1 by adding more advanced programs.

These programs are designed to provide the child with the ability to:

  • improve cognitive development
  • increase fine and gross motor skills
  • follow receptive instructions
  • engage in reciprocal conversations
  • increase social-emotional regulation
  • improve self-help skills

In addition, we work on decreasing maladaptive behaviors by replacing them with socially appropriate behaviors.

During this phase we implement aspects of the Floortime Approach to encourage the child to develop and recognize emotional connections with people, experience shared mutual enjoyment, foster pretend play and abstract thought. We recommend 20-40 hours a week of therapy during the Generalization Phase.
